Siavash Kasrai was an influential twentieth-century Persian poet. His poetry had a significant influence on Persian literature, art, and music. Kasrai was the people's poet, and his poems championed the longing of the Iranian people for freedom. He was the Bertolt Brecht of modern Persia. Like Brecht's writings and poems, his poems are communicative art for a social cause. The scarlet stone is a tale of romance, sacrifice, betrayal, failure, and hope. The scarlet stone and other selected poems are the first-ever translation of Kasrai's poems into English.
