Margaret Hauwa Kassam was born in northern Nigeria in 1959. She attended the premier university in northern Nigeria called Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where she graduated with a BA (Hons) English, Second Class Upper in 1986 and an MA in English (1991) with specialization in Sociolinguistics. In 1994 she was awarded an Academic Staff Scholarship/ Fellowship by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) in London to study for a doctorate degree in the United Kingdom. She graduated from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) with a PhD in African Literature in 2002.
Margaret resides in the United Kingdom as a Commonwealth Scholar. Some of her creative and literary works are published in academic journals.
Snowy The Bear Who Didn't Know How To Be A Bear is her third children's story to be published. Her other stories include: Baba and Snoopy, Nasara and Her Little Goat.
