Born in Holyport, Berkshire in 1940 John Carter attended Ellington Junior School, being the youngest player in the school football team. He fully discovered his sense of humour at Gordon Road secondary school. Gaining his City and Guilds in response to the college principal's suggestion that he might have a link missing, he worked first as a compositor and later as a private haulier, accumulating anecdotes from 1972 to 2020. An amateur dramatist and judo black belt, in 1967 he married Maureen Connolly, who blessed him with two children, Christopher in 1969 and Eleanor in 1971. He now lives in Burnham, where he is passionate about the countryside and classical music.
