J. Kemp is a life-long professional teacher. Originally a teacher in secondary schools, the focus of teaching was soon given to older pupils, and later to sixth-form, college and Open University students. There was also a six-year period living and working in the Far East on the island of Borneo. J. Kemp served for ten years as a Reader (licenced lay minister) in the Church of England and then for a further five years in the Scottish Episcopal Church. A Reader is appointed to teach, preach and conduct services.
