David & Helga Compston

David & Helga Compston

David Compston CBE
David Compston was born in October 1938. His formative years were spent in remote wartime Cumberland. He was educated at boarding schools in Lincolnshire and then London.
He was one of the last generation of chartered engineers who obtained their academic qualifications by attending ‘night school', leading to his career as a consulting engineer with projects across the world.
After retiring, he became involved in Manchester's renaissance including the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Helga Compston
Helga Compston was born in March 1936. Her time as a wartime evacuee in rural North Yorkshire was the foundation of her formative years. Returning to her family in suburban Manchester, she was educated in the state system.
She was one of the last generation of ‘stay at home wives' leading a full family life, while contributing to the work of very many charities and supporting her husband in the promotion of his business.
An avid reader, Helga became a ‘student' of history.
