Born to a middle class family in Karachi, Pakistan, I had an educated and loving upbringing. I saw first-hand the growth of the Taliban in my city, Karachi. In fact, I was approached by them to join their mujahedeen cause. I encountered deaths of innocent civilians from suicide bombing by the Taliban and other Islamic extremist groups. These experiences, alongside my scientific and philosophical curiosity, turned me into an agnostic. I decided to write this book in hope of bringing an understanding to the reader about the choices that some of us faced during the rise of Taliban in Pakistan.
