A. G. Clayton was born in England. He experienced a happy but peripatetic childhood. Having failed to get into art school he worked as a cinema projectionist, trainee land surveyor, packer, cleaner and cutter, all interspersed with salutary periods of unemployment. He passes the time watching silent films and reading.
